What are the strengths of the task?
- We got a lot of good feedback about the use of visual effects and the graphics we used, the CCTV shot and the home film effect. We thought to use these in the planning stage of the task, as we thought it would be a clear distinction between the different characters and viewpoints in our clip, and would also show good use of technology.
- We also received a lot of good feedback about our sound mix, both diegetic and non-diegetic. We hoped this would be mentioned as we spent a lot of time crossfading audio and changing levels so that there was no clipping in between shots. We also spent a while finding sound on freesound.org that would suit the task, for example, the heavy breath, the giggling laughter and the haunted sound you hear at the end.
- One person commented on the use of the canted angle, which we thought worked well to add to the tension and unease of the main character getting followed.
What are some targets for our next task?
- One weakness of our preliminary task is the fade to black and then whip pan as the main character starts to run. The fade to black does not work with the whip pan, however on the shoot we shot the tracking in and whip pan in two different shots, and when we edited them together, found that they jumped and did not work in sync. As we felt both shots were necessary, we experimented with different transitions to make them fit together, however they appeared too cheesy, so decided on the fade. We know in future to shoot as much as we can, and also try to shoot everything at least a few times to choose the best in editing. We also know to plan our shoots more, as to avoid this in future.
